Are you interested in becoming involved in your community? A regular Town Council election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7 to elect threeCouncil members to four-year terms. This election will be held in conjunction with the Douglas County Coordinated Election.
Those interested in running for office are invited to attend a pre-candidate meeting on Wednesday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at Parker Town Hall,20120 E. Mainstreet. At this meeting, candidates will be able to talk to current Councilmembers and staff regarding the position of
Councilmember and what it entails. Individuals will also be given a sample of the nomination petition and related instructions.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 8, individuals can pick up a nomination petition at Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet. Potential candidates must obtain the required number of qualified signatures and file them with the Town Clerk on or before Tuesday, Aug. 28. After the signatures on the nomination petition are verified by the Town Clerk, the applicant’s name will be
placed on the Nov. 7 ballot for the position of Councilmember.
The position of Councilmember is very rewarding, but it is also very time intensive. Current Councilmembers estimate that they spend 10 to 20 hours per week attending meetings, serving on committees and fulfilling their Council duties. In addition to weekly Council meetings, members also attend various committee meetings and community events. They are also
expected to attend an annual winter Council retreat each January.
To be eligible to run for office, candidates must be at least 18 years of age and be a registered elector of the Town. Additionally, candidates must be a current resident of the Town and must have resided in the Town for one year immediately preceding the election.
