New Fitness Classes Coming in September
The Parker Recreation Center is kicking off fall with a new lineup of fitness class choices. Class changes go into effect after Labor Day unless otherwise noted. Group fitness classes, including yoga and Pilates, are included with daily admission or membership.
Several new classes will be offered during the 5 to 6 p.m. time slot. On Mondays, join Elsie Todd’s Step and Pump class. This is an interval-based step class which combines aerobics with group strength equipment. On Tuesdays at 5 p.m. the facility has added an additional Pilates-based core strengthening class called Power-lates. JoAna will work you through movements that will tone your core, upper and lower body simultaneously. Wednesday’s new 5 p.m. class is Step, Strength and Stabilize with Elsie. The workout begins with step aerobics for your cardiovascular workout, then you will use a variety of resistance equipment for strength and stability training.
Join Mich Wruck for Hard Bodies, 9:30-11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Participants will start with 45 minutes of non-stop cardio, followed by 45 minutes of strength training. The class will primarily use the “Iron Grip” strength equipment. This class will get your heart-pumping, burn calories, burn fat, improve tone and increase your endurance. Be prepared to sweat.
Parker area seniors will be offered two weekly sessions of First Gear Senior Cycling after Labor Day. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 7, First Gear will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. “Many older adults are intimidated by a group cycling class and therefore miss out on all the benefits,” says Fitness and Wellness Coordinator Kim Bailey, “First gear is designed to build seniors’ confidence and endurance on the bikes so they feel comfortable at any of the group cycling classes Parker Recreation offers.”
Weekend workout choices will also expand for fall. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 16 and Sunday, Sept. 17 Parker Recreation’s fall/winter cycling schedule resumes and 9:30 a.m. classes return. New instructors have new rides in store for you. Advanced Yoga, Sundays at 10:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 17, is a more challenging vinyasa/flow practice which builds strength and flexibility. Basic knowledge of asanas and breath work is helpful.
To accommodate families with small children, the Recreation Center offers child care Monday through Friday mornings from 8:25 a.m. until 12:10 p.m., as well as Monday through Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Parker Recreation Center is a municipal fitness facility. Daily admission rates are $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for youth 15 to 18, and $3 for seniors over 62 and children 3 to 14. Admission covers use of the entire facility including fitness classes, cardio and weight equipment, gymnasium and pool. Punch passes and memberships offer discounted admission rates.
