Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America.
Powerful video/audio footage of Rachel’s life and the Columbine tragedy holds students spell-bound during a one hour school presentation that motivates them to positive change in the way they treat others.
Entertainers, politicians, sports celebrities, educators, and even two Presidents of the United States have been impacted by Rachel’s Challenge. However, students are the target audience and they have proven that they will respond with positive words, attitudes, and actions.

“Are you interested in serving the Parker Community? We are always looking for volunteers to assist us with programs in the Recreation Department. From one-day events to coaching a sports team, we would be happy to put your valuable skills to work. Customer Appreciation Week is nearing, March 9 to 14 and throughout the week, numerous volunteers will be needed to help make this event a success. Volunteers will take on a variety of roles helping with raffle drawings, set ups, tear downs, competition monitors, concessions, general admissions, general supervision and much more. The Fieldhouse Finale on Saturday, March 14 is the largest event of the week and volunteer help is greatly needed for this day. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a FUN volunteering experience! High school community service hours are also available. Contact Brenda Mooney at 303.805.6309. The Parker Cultural Commission offers concerts, plays and children’s activities year round. Volunteers will also be needed for Kidz Kulture! Irish Legends on Saturday, March 21 at the Mainstreet Center. Volunteer work includes general set up, clean up and leading children with crafts and general donations. FREE! Join us for our inaugural Recreation Decathlon at the Parker Fieldhouse. Pair up with a teammate and compete in 10 different events. Events include football agility course, obstacle course, basketball skills challenge, one-mile cycle challenge, one-mile relay run, timed flex arm hang, standing long/vertical jump, relay race, climbing wall and mind game. FREE! Battle others on the Nintendo WiiTM in this interactive video game tournament. This competition will involve multiple games requiring different skills. The Town is moving forward with the design and construction of the Parker Civic Center and is seeking input from the community regarding the anticipated uses for the proposed facility. The Town would like to invite potential users and user groups to attend a community open house regarding interior uses for the Civic Center on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at Parker Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet.
The proposed 46,000 square foot facility is planned to be located in downtown Parker, near the southeast corner of Mainstreet and Pine Drive. Elements anticipated to be included in the facility include a 500-seat performance theater, a flexible space venue, public art gallery, dance studio, kitchen area, multi-purpose rooms, lobby/reception area, plus various support and ancillary spaces.
Anticipated uses for this facility include theater, dance and music activities and performances, conferences, seminars and meetings, recitals and receptions, art exhibits, youth and senior activities, community meeting rooms and instructional and demonstration classes.

A new downtown event is coming this summer to include local vendors, restaurants, with some added special events, chef demonstrations and things for kids.
Residents and vendors are invited to attend a meeting from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb 21 at the Warhorse Inn where there will be discussions on what this event will look like. ParkerFest will run May 10 through October 11th. Residents can see who some of the new vendors are and find out more about getting involved.
Vendors that sign up on Feb 21 will get 10% off the application fee. There is also a drawing for free vendor space for the whole season.

Kidz Kulture on Feb. 21
Always the third Saturday of each month at the Parker Mainstreet Center, 19650 E. Mainstreet, for an adventure through the exciting world of art and culture.
The theme for 2009 is “World Legends.”
On Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. celebrate Greek World Legend with performances from the Hellenic Greek dancers. Experience the intricate dance steps and beautiful costumes that originated from all parts of Greece.
There will be hands-on art projects, and live performances.
Free to ALL but pre-registration is requested.
